The summer IQ offers both faculty and student perspectives on travel & exploration as they relate to interdisciplinary learning and education. Our IDS students have been globe-trotting. IQ has the summer beat covered from the Côte D’Azur to Costa Rica. The faculty have been on the move as well. Professor Antonia Lewandowski invites us to consider France in the Fullness of Light. She explores a dazzling region “encompassing the French Riviera between Menton and Cannes in Alpes-Maritimes département and extending into southern Var département. Traditional inland towns in Alpes-Maritimes include Gourdon, Èze, Utelle, and Peille; many such towns are perched on cliffs. Their streets are narrow and paved with flagstones or cobbles; houses are built of stone and roofed with rounded tiles”  (Encyclopædia Britannica). Professor Lewandowski introduces us to both the region’s art (Bonnard, Matisse, etc.) and cuisine (which relies heavily upon olive oil and spices). Bon appetite!

Professor Lillien Tunceren and company then take us on an exciting journey to Sydney, Auckland, Rotorua, Canterbury, and other destinations Down Under (Kia Ora) for an in-depth look at traditional Māori culture and language: Kia kaha! Dr. Stark takes us on a scenic tour of Italy (Renaissance Florence from Sunrise to Sunset) while Professor Madden’s students provide us with images of Costa Rica’s amazing wildlife (Hola Amigos!). We explore the ways in which travel stimulates growth—and how travel has evolved over time. Interdisciplinary teaching and learning benefit from travel. The Interdisciplinary Studies Program at St. Petersburg College celebrates travel abroad opportunities.

We also wish to thank our outstanding student editors, Gerald Peer and Max Max Matheu, for their assistance and patience. Gerald (fortunately) reminded us that (in French) certain words require accent characters, like the circumflex in “Côte D’Azur” and Max provided some invaluable perspective on IQ travel photography.

Merci Beaucoup!
